Does Varsol ever go bad?

Postby Stan D » Wed Jun 15, 2011 4:42 pm

I have a 1 gallon glass jug about 2/3 full of varsol. I inherited it, so I have no clue as to how old it is. I've had it about 5-6 years Anybody know?

Never heard of Varsol, or of it going bad?

Great solvent. They don't seem to make it anymore, which may be why you don't know about it. Here's everything I can find on it. Everything but the answer to my question!

Stan, I would bet its still good. Probably not much in it to go bad, except evaporating. Try it out on a gummed up sediment bowl to see if it still has its poop. Jim.

Well, I did, just for the heck of it, and it does indeed seem to still have it's poop. It did a decent job of cleaning out crank case sludge from an engine that's probably sat for 20 years.
