B&S: two versions of same engine,

Postby JoeB » Fri Jun 03, 2011 5:50 pm

BUT different engines, like my uncle & aunt! Both 21 hp B&S; one made for sears, (no spin on oil filter< different muffler, etc....
One made for hasquarna, 21 hp B&S vanguard series. No serial # on sears... piece of crap in my opion, BOTH with cast iron sleeve.
Funny story behind second sears engine: Guy is mowing lawn, parks lawn mower behind nieghbor's suv in HIS driveway to get a cold drink, neighbor comes out, and DOES NOT see large sears lawn mower, flattings both back tires, flattings the seat ( molded plastic) gets out of the suv, (in the air) and falls flat on her face ( they were drinking strawberry somethings)
Anyway, is it possible to make this B&S with 88 hours replace MY husquarna B&S with 324 hours??? Thanks for ur time, JoeB

The Vanguard and the Intek are 2 different series of engines. If you were an OEM, B & S will build an engine for you depending upon how much you want to spend. Want a cheaper engine??? No pre cleaner, foam air filter, no fuel solenoid, no oil filter, no dipstick, and other such goodies.

The engines will bolt up the same but you need to check several things to see if it will work. The 2 major areas to check, 1-- crankshaft dimensions ( sizes, keyways, lengths ) and 2-- charging system ( 3 amp, 10 amp, regulated, or other). You can't run an electric clutch with a 3 amp system. You gotta' know what you got before you swap.
