Lazy Boy Powered Sulky

Postby zira » Tue Oct 25, 2011 7:53 pm

Neat photo this month! Does anyone know anything about the "Lazy Boy" company that made it? I had a Lazy Boy mower powered by a Briggs 6S in the pre-digital photo age. Had a cast aluminum body, about 16" or 18" cut, vertical spindle in the center powered by a twisted belt from the horizontal shaft engine. I actually mowed with it a few times.

You got me wondering so I did some digging. There isn't too much out there on the company. See the attached excerpt from the June 1958 edition of Popular Mechanics magazine. That provided the company address:

Lazy Boy Lawn Mower Co., Inc.
301 W. 73rd St.
Kansas City, MO

This link takes you to a filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office: http://tarr.uspto.gov/servlet/tarr?regs ... y=72035520

Apparently they filed on August 14, 1957 and registered on March 18, 1958. Interestingly, it was renewed on March 18, 1978 but finally expired in 1998. So, if you want to start Zira's Lazy Boy Lawn Mower Company then you're good to go!

Great picture. All that I've seen there are great. Any chance of some sort of repository of those pics? I tried to show a friend the Sally Saw pic, but it was gone. I found one after some searching, but it sure would have been easier if I could have just come in here.

That's a good idea Stan. I can set something up. I have most of those pictures on my Mac at home so I can upload them to a "featured engine" library. I'll have to try and remember which ones I've used but I can probably get most of them.

That would be cool. Soon I will have a motor or two to show off, and you'll get first dibs on the pics. I've stopped working on the Tecumseh, and have been working on a '65 Briggs.
